Mark of the Phoenix plot

A metallurgist from Belgium has discovered a valuable new metal that protects against radioactive radiation. However, he is murdered by an international gang of thieves who hide a piece of the new metal in a cigarette box that is placed with the belongings of an otherwise unknown jewel thief in the hopes that he will smuggle it into East Germany. Unfortunately, that thief decides to sell the cigarette box back to the leader of the gang and is nearly killed in the process. However, he escapes and later manages to deliver the box to the right people.
