"In his eyes, it was murder. In their eyes, it was justice..."

David Mitchell (Scott Bakula) plays a decorated silent cop who arrests two mob killers responsible for the murder of a colleague. The case goes to court and under the law, a murderer of a police officer is automatically given the death penalty. David, who is called as a key witness, goes through a crisis of conscience because he has justified moral objections to the death penalty.
