Like every year, when the good weather arrives, Commissioner Paul Bellamy is on holiday in Nimes at the parental home of his wife Francoise. Paul wouldn't want to be without her, but he hates these trips. Two incidents ensure that he can finally lay his hands on vacation: the unexpected arrival of his adventurous and alcoholic half-brother Jacques and a phone call from a stranger who claims to have killed someone, but who does not say who.
