Harrowhouse number 11 is the central seat of a powerful world cartel of diamond traders, known simply as 'The System'. The system is run by the sophisticated Meecham, who has taken every precaution to protect the system. One day, the young American diamond dealer Chesser is ordered to buy one of the largest diamonds in the collection. However, when the stone is stolen, Chesser has no choice but to accept his client Massey's proposal to steal Harrowhouse's entire stock.
