Clarence 'Jigger' Millard has just been discharged from the army and is determined to pursue a career as the conductor of his own big band. Together with his friends and his girlfriend Chris Hall, they scour the nightclubs in search of that one performance that will mark their breakthrough. They have little success until they accidentally organize a performance in a Chinese restaurant.
