Tasty Ernst Lubitsch comedy from before the PCA code, so with only bad people, sexually tinted dialogues and with a fast pace.

A nice example of a movie from Hollywood before they applied the Motion Picture Production Code in 1934 and many things were censored. That was later compensated with better acting, film techniques and top directors. But it has been polished. Trouble in Paradise is still naughty and playful. It remains a romantic comedy, of course, but a bit rougher than the later films in the 1930s. Ironic that Ernst Lubitsch was quite critical of the sound film a few years earlier. He wondered why you would still film images if you could hear actors tell the story.

Fortunately, he continued to direct and mixes the new sound film with his visual approach. Filming through a mirror, working with shadows, from the window, ... These are small things, but they ensure that it is not a mere theater film. It also picks up the pace and the dialogues are fun to follow. Nice cast by the way. Edward Everett Horton in a supporting role is always a joy to watch. And the main characters are well matched.

In this genre I am mainly a fan of Frank Capra, but Ernst Lubitsch is certainly a strong director as well. Capra could count on even better actors and had more spicy dialogues in his films. Lubitsch has his experience to make a beautiful film out of it visually. And Trouble in paradise is one of those gems.

Nice but I think that very high score is a bit too much of a good thing , even found the story a bit confused in the beginning .

When the main plot reveals itself, it only becomes interesting, how Gaston manages to win over Colet is nicely executed.
