Toute la Ville Accuse plot

François Neyrac, a young writer, ends up on Christmas Eve in a small town where he has just bought an old house. He notices some children, who have their noses against the window of a shop, buy a cake for one and toys for another, but the youngsters are too numerous for him to be able to give them all. The next day he finds a bag with ten million francs in front of his door. The found topics service is closed. The next day there is another bag. The notes turn out not to be counterfeit and François asks the notary for advice. But it doesn't stop and the money just keeps pouring in. François uses it to buy gifts for children and for charity. But his generosity comes at a cost.
