The Wrong Guy plot
"A fugitive in his own mind."
A man becomes furious with his boss when he doesn't get a promotion and even threatens him with death. When he subsequently finds his boss dead, he panics, assuming that the police will arrest him as the prime suspect. But the police have been eyeing another suspect for a long time.
