The Wild Man of Borneo plot

"HOWL as women make the wild man W-I-L-D!"

J. Daniel Thompson is a criminal who wants to visit his daughter Mary whom he has not seen in a long time. Daniel has heard that her aunt is dying and Mary could inherit a lot of money. When it turns out that Mary can't get any money, he takes her to New York. They take up residence in the pension of the widow Bernice Marshall. Daniel tells Bernice and his co-tenants that he is a famous actor, but he can't get a job in that field. He meets his old friend "Doc" Skelby and is offered a night job to perform in "The Wild Man from Borneo", a negligible little show in a back room. Daniel tells everyone that he landed the lead role in King Lear's play, replacing famed actor Richard Mansfield. When fellow tenants want to see his performance, Daniel threatens to blow the whistle.
