"She's on the line... and off the wall."
Unemployed actress Vashti Blue (Whoopi Goldberg) spends all her time in her apartment with her owl and her phone. With her phone she tries to solve all the problems in her life. For example, she has an interview with the video store, which in her view has put a film on the video incorrectly and thus completely 'screwed up' the film. She also expects an important call from her agent for a new role at any moment. She completely ignores the problems she has with the electricity supplier and the telephone company due to payment arrears.
