After the at times great 'Sullivan's Travels' I just expected a bit more from this 2nd film I saw by Preston Sturges. 'The Palm Beach Story' has its nice moments and mainly relies on the nice atmosphere, but at times I even found it a bit boring - I mainly mean the too long scene in the train with that terribly busy men. Bit of a shame. Fortunately, some things are being fine-tuned, but unfortunately I cannot say more than a solid pass. Nevertheless, this print also looked away very quickly, but I didn't get any further than a few smiles.

Typical Hollywood from the 1940s. Somehow charming and played with a certain pleasure, but also dated. Everything that happens is typical cinema, how people interact and what happens, et cetera. Far from realistic (and believable). Just all that hassle on the train, but really everything. There is also no depth anywhere to really take hold. It's quite entertaining and is over quickly due to the short length, but it never really wants to be fun and some jokes are painfully unfunny. Fortunately, this does not irritate and the players are all excellent in their roles. 3.0*.

In the review. It's Preston Sturges Screwball Time. And that means a wonderful 40s romcom. With Claudette Colbert who leaves her hubby to look for a guy who does have money. However, hubby comes to get her back just when the richest man in the world has fallen in love with her. She then tells him that her brother is and the super rich sister of the millionaire falls in love with her husband. The story is of course just something like what we know in the Netherlands with Piet Bambergen, Joke Buys and Joop Doderer, but this film remains just wonderful Hollywood humor and is much better in terms of dialogues and acting.
