Ben Whittaker (De Niro) is a 70-year-old widower who finds that his retirement isn't living up to expectations. He sees an opportunity to return to work as a senior intern at a fashion website run by Jules Ostin (Hathaway). Ben proves himself to be a valuable member of the team and a close bond develops between him and Jules.

Here I expected something different, namely much more misunderstanding between the characters of De Niro and Hathaway due to the generation gap. Those misunderstandings turned out to be completely absent and instead we get to see a nice interaction between the two characters, where there is clearly the necessary chemistry between the actors.
And yet somehow the shoe pinches. It's all neatly filmed, but where it goes wrong is the plot. It is, however, very sweet. De Niro's character really does everything right and that feels a little too easy. Then drama has to be thrown in, which happens through marriage troubles. Hathaway's character's husband cheats because he feels overwhelmed by his wife's career. But then he repents and everything will be all right again. It's just too easy and it seriously detracts from the feeling afterwards. 2*.

De Niro... the greatest actor ever. I name some movies, and you'd swear you're dealing with different actors. Raging Bull - The Deerhunter - Meet the Parents - Heat - Cape Fear - Taxi Driver - Midnight Run - Awakenings - The Mission - The Untouchables
Wrong casting by the way: Ben's guest looks too much like Jules' husband. Poor reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. But Quentin Tarantino even thought the film was Oscar worthy. Nice touch: Hathaway was the assistant to fashion authority Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada. Streep starred in a few movies with De Niro. Old-fashioned and therefore almost daring, this film is good.

The Intern (2015) is an entertaining feel good comedy by Nancy Meyers.
The script is simple and inviting. A retired man (De Niro) returns to work as an intern at a fast, modern Internet company. There he has to deal with the manager (Anne Hathaway) who struggles with Hulk Hog… Uhhh… with private problems.
I agree with Roger Thornhill that the film has a lot of good characters and therefore lacks fierce confrontations. However, this is also a distinguishing point. Moreover, there are nice conversations in the film that you have to think about. I also liked the robbery fragment (parody from Oceans eleven), especially the Busta Rhymes karaoke in the car 
.
Finally, it contains realistic contemporary problems that are told in a light-hearted way. Together with the strong acting by Hathaway and in particular De Niro, this makes the film above average for me.
