The Home Town Girl plot

A young bank clerk wants to marry her, but Nell Fanshawe decides that John Stanley, who works at the drugstore, is the right one for her. Because John does not have enough money to get married, Nell encourages him to go to New York, where he becomes a successful antique salesman for Jellaby and Co. Steve Ratling, a vengeful fired salesman, convinces John to gamble away the $300 he collected from a big sale because he didn't get a deserved raise. However, John loses all his money, which causes complications.
