Jerry Ferro (Adam Carolla) is almost 40 and has done little in his life. In his younger days he was successful as an amateur boxer, but today he is out of shape, drinks too much, and works in construction. Through his work as a construction worker, Jerry ends up at a boxing gym in Pasadena where he becomes a part-time trainer. One day, one of Jerry's former friends, Eddie Bell (Tom Quinn), comes to the boxing gym with an up-and-coming boxing talent. Since he doesn't have a sparring partner, he asks Jerry. Although Jerry is clearly out of shape, he knocks out the challenger with a well-placed punch. Eddie is convinced that Jerry can make a comeback, and despite his age, he can earn a place on the US Olympic boxing team.
