Acceptable remake of the Argentine Nine Queens from 2000, slightly more compact and smoother told than the original. John C. Reilly in the lead role is always fun and he sees himself surrounded by a more than decent supporting cast. I waited a long time with this remake because I thought the original was quite strong, but enough time has passed that I couldn't exactly remember all the plot twists. That makes a difference, because when you know how the film ends, most of the fun is pretty much gone. I prefer the original, but if you don't know it, this is a great alternative.

At the opening of this film I immediately thought of the film "Sydney (1996)" in which John C. Reilly plays a similar role as Diego Luna (he was disappointing by the way) in this film.

Although it's not all that high-quality, the story was captivating and the execution was also good (certainly the first 30 minutes were fun with the various lighting practices). This is mainly due to John C. Reilly, who always does a good job in a movie. Maggie Gyllenhaal's role isn't much, but she did a decent job and I always like to see her. The ending "bean comes for his wages" was by the way pretty good and also surprising. The pace is quite high and because the film barely lasts 90 minutes, he looks away nicely.

Although this film is already 10 years old, I saw it for the first time today on the Film 1 channel.
