The Great Indian Kitchen plot
A woman marries someone from a prestigious family through the well-known route of arranged marriage. The joint family consists of her in-laws and her husband, who are all pleasant and loving. The woman, as the dutiful daughter-in-law, helps her mother-in-law with household chores. The mother-in-law toils from morning to night, prepares the meals, does the laundry and cleans so that her husband will be satisfied, and retires at night after clearing the kitchen.
