The downright fun first 45 minutes (Gooding is in shape!) are completely nullified by Knowles' boring ego trip in the second part. She can't sing great and then also screw up a movie in such a way...

The Fighting Temptations is actually a Sister Act movie if it were made with Eddie Murphy in mind to go for Cuba Gooding Jr. The result is a somewhat unbalanced comedy without the drama to keep the balance straight. The film was also released the same year that Beyoncé released her debut album. She has been acting for some time, but it will have influenced the choice of the producers. And that in addition to Cuba Gooding Jr, who had already won an Oscar at the time. Both are not bad, but they do lack the chemistry between each other. The vocals are not that bad, thanks to a slew of top names such as Beyoncé, Faith Evans, The O'Jays, Angie Stone, Montel Jordann and more.
Fans of the genre will love this. But a better script and a director who can provide more atmosphere and chemistry between the characters would certainly do the film well.
