John McGrath publishes books for children and 'Uncle Bump' is one of the bestsellers. Greg Rawlings, who is 'Uncle Bump', unfortunately has a tendency to drink too much and has not yet started his next book. Martha won a competition to illustrate the book and the first thing that happens is that Greg gives her a good opinion while drunk, whereupon Martha resigns. To keep her with him to illustrate, Greg hires a juvenile delinquent to play his son and show her how much pressure he is under. The plan works, but Greg's heart was once broken by one Tillie and maybe Martha is the girl who can make her forget.
