Unemployed singer Homer Tompkins is an easy target for con artists, who portray him as a highly paid professional listener. People pay a premium to report their problems to Homer, while his bosses secretly record the conversations to blackmail their clients. The goal of the scam is to trick millionaire "Utah" Pete into revealing the location of his secret gold mine. But honest Homer gets wind of the scheme and decides to turn the tables on his corrupt employers.
