Sylvie et le Fantôme plot
On the eve of her sixteenth birthday, Sylvie's father needs money to continue living in the castle. In order to obtain the necessary money, he sells a painting depicting Alain, the lover of Sylvie's grandmother who was killed during a duel and haunted the castle. Sylvie is in love with Alain and is very disappointed when the painting is sold. Her father hires an actor to surprise her with the appearance of the ghost at her birthday party. What her father doesn't know is that there are two other people posing as ghosts. These young men, Fred, a rich boy who bought the painting, and Ramure, a jewel thief, are in love with Sylvie and, like the actor, dress up as ghosts to get her attention. The real ghost looks on with dismay and decides to interfere.
