Senior Year plot

"High school has changed. But she hasn’t."

Ruby wakes up from a coma after 20 years and is deeply disappointed. It turns out that she missed her last year of high school. And high school was just heaven for Ruby, who was the cheerleading leader, dating the quarterback on the football team, and had become prom queen without a doubt. So there is only one thing to do for the now 37-year-old Ruby. She goes back to high school to make up for lost time and become a prom queen after all.

Very exaggerated characters. After she came out of the coma, I thought it would be funny because of the overly woke school, but in the end the humor was on the safe side and of course there was a portion of drama in it. Apparently making good comedy is difficult these days or it's just me and I'm not 'woke' enough. It could have been fun, but alas.

This actually should have gone horribly wrong, but there's nothing damn wrong with this movie. As expected, it's bland, but surprisingly, in a good way. The director knows how to keep exactly the right tone during the film. And that's great. Because in many cases these types of films go in a radically wrong direction. The film pokes fun at wokeism in a fun way and keeps it light and smooth. I expected a bit more from the ending and every now and then there is a painfully stupid moment, but this film can handle that. I had a good time.

A film that is especially notable for the physical transformation of Rebel Wilson, which means that we as viewers are finally free of the famous and annoying fat jokes. However, the alternative humor is not much better, although that may mainly be due to the screenwriters. Director Alex Hardcastle delivers a typical, hyperactive comedy in which the caricatural characters triumph, all portrayed so exaggerated that the critical layers barely have an impact. For example, the concept where the old generation is forced to come into contact with the new generation on a cultural level is a nice idea, but this childish approach goes nowhere. There is little wrong with the acting (including Wilson), but the unambitious editing of the content regularly raises questions. It's a rather simplistic path that is taken every time. Acting as crazy and awkward as possible in the hope that people will laugh, well. I hope that the future will add some sharper edges to these kinds of comedic concepts.
