Ribâ, Nagarenaide Yo plot

Mikoto works as a waitress in a long-established ryokan in Kibune, Kyoto. She is at the back of the outhouse when she is called back to work. Two minutes later, for some reason, she's back in the same place she was before. This does not only apply to Mikoto: her colleagues and guests also notice that something is not right. Although time rewinds, the memories of the previous two minutes carry over into the new experience. Mikoto and the others try to work together to find the cause of the time loop.

I was fascinated by the theme, in which a Japanese ryokan, a kind of wellness family hotel, is faced with a time loop. Every two minutes you are thrown back in time with the acquired knowledge of that period. In this way, the puzzle pieces and thought process can evolve further.

It becomes fun when - when the greatest panic is over - some funny guys perform tricks like suicide just to see what it is. That's it. The focus is entirely on humor and not so much on a scientific thriller. Anyone who is familiar with the work of Quentin Dupieux can certainly go here.

What bothered me immensely, however, was the enormous theatrical acting of the entire cast. Asians can do something about it, but here I found it particularly annoying. I also didn't like the very dull ending with that time machine. Very cheap and weak ending.
