Quite Ugly One Morning plot

After a good night's sleep, a man in Edinburgh is woken up by the sound of a toy monkey constantly beating his pelvis. He manages to turn the monkey off, but does come across the corpse of the doctor, who lives in the house below him. He immediately sees a good story in this, and actually wants to start writing right away. The police find him too calm and he shows too much insight into the possible facts of the crime, so he immediately makes himself suspicious.
