"Don't Rock the boat… Sink it."
For years, Putney Swope has been the only black executive in a major advertising agency on Madison Avenue, and all the while has seen how the non-whites were denied opportunities in the business. When a twist of fate lands him in the chair, he is determined to make some drastic changes. He begins by replacing the all-white management with black "brothers and sisters". But his ideas go beyond simply turning the hierarchical structure on Madison Avenue upside down and all hell breaks loose.
