"Blane's a pretty cool guy. Andie's pretty in pink. And Ducky's pretty crazy."

Andie is one of the most unpopular girls in school. In addition, she does not have too much at home, but is happy with her best friend Duckie and mother figure Iona. Duckie, who comes from the same background as Andie, secretly wants more than just friends. But Andie falls in love with Blane, who belongs to the elite group at school. Rich or poor, it shouldn't matter in a relationship, both agree. However, the influence of friends and family does not make it any easier.

One of the better teen rom-coms of the 80's. The last great role of Molly Ringwald, who was quickly forgotten after her successes with Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and this film, after a fight with director/producer John Hughes.

Nice, albeit predictable story with generally good performances, but it is Annie Potts who, as a young surrogate mother and girlfriend, steals the show in a ridiculous way.

The film is dedicated to Alexa Kenin (the beautiful Jenna in the film), who was found dead in her Manhattan apartment before the premiere.

Like the other Bratpack movies I've been reviewing lately, this one is a bit disappointing. A very simple moralistic story, occasionally filmed a bit sloppily and with a disappointing series of protagonists. And then Ringwald, what a bitch really, and that dress doesn't suit her at all. Well.

If you just sweep together a whole series of similar films, it raises the question to me what this one has to add to that, and what explains the popularity of the Bratpack at the time. I don't see it for a while.

“This is an incredibly romantic moment, and you're ruining it for me!”

Nice movie by Howard Deutch. Pretty in Pink really is an 80s coming of age film that captures the lives of teenagers very sharply. With Molly Ringwald, of course, bad haircuts, colorful clothes and real 80's music. Its strongest point is the interplay between Ringwald and McCarthy (there is real chemistry), and the wacky role of Cryer. But the strong and sincere script is also a great strength of the film. Not too predictable, not too dramatic, and with enough self-awareness. Pretty in Pink does everything just right.
