Pardon My French plot

A traveling theater company ends up in a small town, so resourceful Polly decides to return to her hometown of New York City, broke. She and her friend Bunny, desperate for jobs, convince the Hawkers, a wealthy Kansas family, that they are French and skilled maids and butlers. Young Zeke Hawker is in love with Polly, but Polly is attracted to their neighbor, a famous actor named MacGillicuddy. One night at a fancy party thrown by Mrs. Hawker, her jewelry is stolen and Polly falls under suspicion. Complications ensue until Polly discovers who the real thieves are.
