About 560 years before the common era, the kingdom of Lydia is ruled by the temperamental and somewhat strange king Croesus. Croesus is visited by Aesop, a famous fairy tale teller and ambassador of the neighboring kingdom of Samos. Aesop falls for the king's intended bride, the Persian princess Delerai. Delerai also falls in love with Aesop and complications are inevitable. Aesop is cornered when he learns that Croesus is being urged by his chief priests to attack and conquer Samos. Aesop, in love, must do everything in his power to prevent a war.
