'n Beetje Verliefd plot

The sixty-year-old horticulturist and widower Thijs (Ad van Kempen) is coupled by his grandson Omar (Yes-R) to the lively Jacky (Geert de Jong). The arrival of this new dance and life partner arouses the annoyance of his daughters Vonne (Plien van Bennekom) and Aafke (Tjitske Reidinga), both of whom go through life rather frustrated themselves. Omar in turn is in love with the Turkish Meral, but her brother gets in the way of the love happiness between the two. He doesn't agree to a relationship until Omar beats him at an oil wrestling match. The circle is complete when grandfather Thijs, who used to be a wrestling champion, can help his grandson Omar with this.

What a very nice Dutch film! It's wonderful how the situations and the acting seem so natural, while it's just a comedy. I just felt a lot of sympathy for Omar and Thijs and I am very pleased with the two actors who play them.

In the near future, I think I will delve more deeply into Koolhoven's work. I've actually always been involved with the Scorcese's and the Fincher's and you can name all American directors, but I dare to say by now that Koolhoven is the best director in the Netherlands after Paul Verhoeven.

Great comedic music accompanies the hilarious situations in which the main characters get involved, the highlight for me being Omar holding up a sexy thong in the car, after which an innocent passer-by ends up in the canal!

So I absolutely do not agree with the lowest buckets. Together with Het Schnitzel Paradijs, this is about the best you can find in the Netherlands, and can easily compete with 80% of American comedy.

The opening title was really grandiose, very nicely done. The film score is also magnificent, with its countless variations on "A little bit in love". The plot of the film is in principle also quite good, nice idea. Unfortunately, Yes-R throws a spanner in the works with his crappy acting. What is that man in my allergy with his artificial Amsterdam accent and that annoying popiejopie behavior. He acts almost as bad as he raps. Unfortunately! If they had cast a random other actor for him, I would have given one and a half more stars

The animations during the opening credits evoke memories of those light-hearted romantic comedies that Hollywood had patented since the 1950s. Unfortunately, Maarten Lebens' screenplay contains too many vulgar moments (the code word is Viagra) and Koolhoven doesn't seem to know what to do with this material. Ad van Kempen does resemble Bob Hope (for whom this would have been right up his alley), but has none of his charm or comical appearance. Koolhoven's directing of the actors is pitiful, so that even those few jokes that were successful on paper fail completely. Yes-R, Tjitske Reidinga and Plien van Bennekom overact. The only bright spots are Geert de Jong as the Flemish Jacky and Gene Bervoets as Thijs' exuberant friend Guy.
