Mother Is a Freshman plot
"It's the cheer leader of the year!"
New York widow Abigail 'Abby' Fortitude Abbott and her 17-year-old daughter Susan live on a fund set up by her late husband. Money from this fund is allocated every three years by family attorney John Heaslip. Heaslip tells Abby that she currently has a negative balance and that the next payment will not be made until next year. Abby, who has rejected Heaslip's marriage proposal, is concerned that Susan will not be able to complete her studies at Pointer College and investigates a school fund set up there by her grandmother. This fund awards $3,000 a year to every high-moral woman named Abigail Fortitude. Like her grandmother, Abby's maiden name is Abigail Fortitude, so she decides to enroll in Pointer College as well.
