In terms of time period, Damski knows how to paint a more than excellent picture. You get sucked into that fifties vibe and the decoration of the film and its characters are very nice. The ladies are a feast for the eyes and the film has its touching moments. However, you have to be a fan of this genre to fully enjoy it, because the two boys in the lead role cannot act at all and the story is somewhat disjointed and very fragmentary. As if Damski didn't know how to make it a fun movie with sympathetic characters. Especially in character development, this director really lacks the qualities to turn this simple premise into a distinctive film.

3.0* (actually half too much, but I'm a sucker for this coming-of-age genre at an eighties high school).

Great film that approaches all clichés in a super fun way. The 50s atmosphere is perfect, the directed tone is very nice and the whole thing is super entertaining. What's even more fun than all this are Kelly Preston's incredibly good tits. The friendship, the nerd who gets it done sooner than in the average coming-of-age story, the music and the ending. Everything works great. Nothing to complain about.

Teen comedy with a dramatic edge. Hormones are running rampant in an American town in the 1950s and we must have known that. Connects to the popular genre à la Porky's but is also different. It stands out for its meticulous production. And a soundtrack that blasts out a classic every 4 minutes. Now I like that music myself, but in the long run the balance is a bit lost. You feel the love for the 50s - the neat white suburbia version. The correct Elvis records hang on Kelly Preston's wall, film references are made chronologically (Love me Tender, Rebel Without a Cause). It's a 50's party. The story may be there, but it gets a bit buried under the festive soundtrack.

Chris Nash plays the role of the sensitive stud. His role is somewhat reminiscent of the kind of roles John Travolta did at that time. Nash does not dance, but he does take part in a fight that will also have involved a choreographer. Kelly Preston perhaps makes the biggest impression. Not only thanks to the acting performance, but also because she shows her best (frontal) side. The characters match the types that such films need and so it remains entertaining. The car crashes towards the end are set up in a fairly unbelievable manner, but hey, they're also entertaining.
