Merv is nice. The doggie yoga is fun—imagine getting to teach that, and then having a whole studio full of people and dogs sit up and give paws.

But Deschanel isn't funny, and once again carries the aura of the pointless female dog she's been carrying since 500 Days of Summer, just like a real ex who kills every conceivable pleasure simply by her presence, like a permanent dark cloud that swallows up every ray of sunlight. You'd almost think it's enormously, brilliantly acted, but I'm afraid it just comes naturally to her, given how convincing it is.

Cox is doing his best, but it feels like he's beating a huge dead horse, and the little voice in the back of my head keeps screaming things like there are so many nice women out there, and that he shouldn't be wasting his time on this horse. Someone who actually wants something. And then that over-dramatic "truth out" moment too—meh, what a wreckage.
