The worker Arvids Lasmanis is a man with golden hands. He is impulsive, direct and very honest. He can't stand injustice, short-sightedness and doing half the work. Arvids asks a lot of himself and demands the same from others. His colleagues do not like him because of this and think he is a clown. An old artist becomes his only friend.
