Major League plot

"A comedy with bats and balls."

The Cleveland Indians baseball team hasn't had any success in 34 years. Former nightclub dancer Rachel Phelps marries the team's owner. He doesn't survive the honeymoon, and she inherits the team from him. She hates Cleveland, and would like to move into a new stadium in a warmer climate, such as Miami, Florida. The only way she can get out of the contract with Cleveland is if the attendance drops below 800,000. To achieve that, she puts together the worst possible team. When the team learns Rachel Phelps' intentions, they decide to fight back.

Solid sports film with a rather cliché effect. You pretty much know how this movie will go, but that doesn't bother you. The film has a lot of well-known heads in the cast that make it a nice result. Reasonably smooth and fun humor make Major League a fun snack, no more, no less.

Cozy and sympathetic baseball comedy, but I liked A League of Their Own (1992) a lot better. I didn't find the humor working well here and the euphoric feel-good ending is, unsurprisingly, where it all goes. I didn't like the hassle with Taylor's ex, only intended to enhance the feelgood at the end. Also with that voodoo player far too little was done. Not much more than a nice snack for me.

Major League

I did enjoy this comedy/sports movie. Funny here and there and I think baseball is a nice sport. It strikes me that this film unfortunately received very few votes..

3 stars.
