Successful architect Robert Kant (Karl) wants to fly to a business meeting in Shanghai with his partner and future wife Lotta Reinhardt (Hübschmann). When checking in, it turns out that he doesn't have his passport with him, so he rushes to the office to pick it up. On his way there he has a car accident with Teresa Blümel (Loos).
