La Spagnola plot
Lucia's father, a 14-year-old Australian of Spanish descent, abandons his family for another woman. Lucia's mother, Lola, is left furious, pregnant and penniless, bent on revenge. Her behavior becomes increasingly eccentric, especially when it turns out that he has bought an expensive new car while refusing to pay his family's bills. When Lucia's father dies unexpectedly, the car stays with the mistress. Mother Lola is only concerned with her resentment and her poverty. Lucia herself has to survive under her mother's reproaches and cruelty as she grows up in a world full of injustice and lust.
