L'Année Sainte plot
Max Lambert (Jean Gabin), a notorious aging bank robber, spends 20 years in one of France's strictest prisons for a major robbery. He shares his cell with Pierre, a recognized escape artist. Max shares with him his 50 Million Dollar hideout in pure gold, which was never discovered by the police. It is buried in a chapel just outside Rome. Together, they plan their escape, dressed as a bishop and his assisting priest. It's the year of the saints, and they can take advantage of the crowds to hide among the pilgrims, for now.
