Kiss the Bride Goodbye plot

Joan Modd is a working class girl. Her plan to marry Jack Fowler is thwarted by her mother Gladys. Hoping to improve her daughter's social standing, Gladys sets out to pair Joan with her boss Adolphus Pickering as Jack heads off to war. When Jack comes home, he finds that his lover is engaged to another man. Who will Joan eventually marry?
