Kangaroo plot
"Two unlikely friends. One epic adventure."
Chris Masterman is a former television personality who is driving to Broome. After an accident, he ends up stranded in an outback town. There, he teams up with an 11-year-old indigenous girl named Charlie to rescue and rehabilitate a baby kangaroo in a remote community. The endeavor sparks an unlikely friendship that will change both of their lives.

After his fatal “rescue” goes viral, television weatherman Chris [Ryan Corr] is transferred from Sydney to Broome. During the 5,000 km drive, he hits a mother kangaroo. Chris takes the “Joey” in her pouch to a remote village where he intends to get his car repaired. While waiting, he meets the locals, who are (unfortunately) aware of his recent past. However, he receives support from teenage girl Charlie [Lily Whiteley]. The bond between Chris and Charlie has (unintentionally) incestuous undertones, and the story is fairly predictable. But the culture clash with the locals—particularly with the cynical café owner Jesse [Rachel House]—provides some amusing moments. Based on the story of Chris Barns, who founded the Baby Kangaroo Rescue Centre in Alice Springs in 2005 and appears in the credits.
