Jane plot

To receive a higher allowance from his wealthy uncle, Charles Shackleton must give up his wild bachelor life and start a family. Charles proposes marriage to Lucy Norton, but her father refuses to give them his consent. He then convinces his uncle that he is married, so that he still gets his increased allowance. A year later, his uncle unexpectedly announces that he will come to visit. Charles quickly starts looking for a temporary wife.
