Half-Serbian, half-Hungarian Milan manages to flee Sarajevo during the Yugoslav Civil War. He ends up in Budapest, where, as a former medical student, he manages to land a job as an paramedic. Milan soon discovers that the doctor and the driver of his ambulance are taking too much advantage of the recently introduced free market economy. They have no qualms about letting a dying patient die.
