Isn't It Romantic plot

"None of the Feels"

Despite her good efforts, the architect Natalie is not noticed in her work. Her love life also leaves much to be desired, not least because she is cynical about a lifelong relationship. When she loses consciousness during a theft, she awakens in a straight-up romantic comedy, a genre she hates, in which she plays the lead. Natalie does everything she can to escape every cliché. This turns out to be no mean feat, also because she has attracted the attention of two men.

Fine.

Although the film tries to be a parody of the standard romcom, it is perhaps just a bit too good and safe for that. The humor could have been a bit sharper, the story is just a bit too easy and the ending is a bit too easy to guess. In the end, it's just a regular rom-com, but a lot more self-aware.

Fortunately, Wilson makes up for a lot. It is a somewhat polished version of the roles she normally plays, but that is of course also part of the starting point. Furthermore, a nice actress with sufficient comedic baggage, without her a whole star could easily have gone off.

Film looks visually neat, has a few memorable scenes and generally it doesn't sink into anything. Fortunately, it's not too long either, it's all just enough to lift it nicely above the average. Certainly not a brilliant film, but certainly entertaining enough to have seen once.

3.0*

As a child, Natalie [Rebel Wilson] was fond of romantic comedies, but since she still hasn't found love as an adult, she can't stand the conventions of the genre. After a serious blow to her head, she suddenly ends up in an alternative universe in which everything and everyone is like in the rom-bowl she hated. And we all know how that ends. The original idea is right up the alley of Wilson, who, despite the meager plot and an unbalanced approach, makes this enjoyable viewing. The ongoing joke regarding swearing is amusing as is the use of familiar romkom songs. The lively rendition of Whitney Houston's classic "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" is a highlight and Betty Gilpin is good as Natalie's coworker with whom she never argues. Also keep an eye out for nice cameos from Jennifer Saunders (as Natalie's mother) and Bowen Yang as neighbor Donny's boyfriend.

Attempted comedy rom-com. There was certainly no romance because of the exaggerated attempt at humor, which didn't seem really successful either. Ok, Rebel Wilson is not a typical Hollywood model and with this film she wants to prove the opposite, which I appreciate, but it didn't come across as successful. Respect for the many self-relativity, but the humor just didn't grab me. Admittedly I had a smile now and then, but that was it. 2.5* because Wilson dares it anyway...
