Hounds of Notre Dame plot
It is the winter of 1940. Father Athol Murray—“Pere” to most who know him—is the opinionated, chain-smoking, hard-drinking pastor of Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. Among other things, he has a deep aversion to socialism as embodied by the CCF party in Saskatchewan and the current war that has claimed too many lives, including those of alumni. He also insists on the need to raise money to keep the College running in whatever way possible, and he does not want others to imitate his vices—especially the students and women who smoke—while he himself blissfully indulges in that vice.
