Horsegirls plot
While her mother Sandy struggles with an uncertain diagnosis, 22-year-old Margarita, who has autism, reluctantly has to grow up. Overwhelmed by the demands of her new job at a Halloween shop and the complications surrounding her mother's illness, Margarita discovers a competitive hobby horse dancing team—a sport in which young athletes mimic equestrian activities such as jumping and galloping using a hobby horse—and throws herself into training. Encouraged by her coach, her mother, and her community, Margarita begins to gain self-confidence as she becomes more independent and looks forward to her next chapter.
