He's a Cockeyed Wonder plot

Freddie Frisby is told by Bob Sears that he cannot marry his daughter Judy. After all, Freddie is just a bumbling orange picker and Judy deserves something better than that. When Freddie learns that he's getting his uncle's entire inheritance, his prospects improve. He finds out that the entire estate consists of magician stuff and decides to become a magician, with Judy as an assistant. During a rehearsal, however, they are kidnapped by a couple of crooks.
