Lawyer Donald 'Deke' Gentry receives a special assignment from the wealthy widow Brasher, owner of a hotel chain. She has three daughters: sensible Kate, bohemian Jan and health freak Bonnie and she wants to arrange good husbands for them. Deke protests, but can't get out of it. After a while he finds respectable husbands for both Jan and Bonnie, but for Kate it proves more difficult.
