Lucy Chase Wayne, the granddaughter of an ex-president, is married to Secretary of State Stephen Wayne. Because the current president is not running for re-election, Lucy feels that her husband should run for election. However, she discovers that her rival Irene Hibbard wants to leave her current husband Walter, a corrupt Supreme Court judge, for the younger Senator Keane, who is a more suitable candidate for president. Lucy decides to start a fake campaign for Walter Hibbard to make fun of Irene, but this unexpectedly turns into a serious campaign.
