Three brothers, Evert, Henk, and Dick, inherited one characteristic from their deceased father. While these qualities (charming clumsiness, playful practicality and artistic talent) kept the father in balance, in the sons they lead to complications. The brothers are painters, police officers and scrap dealers respectively. They search for happiness, but again and again experience all kinds of disillusionment.
