Fíaskó plot
Retired Karl discovers that a famous actress of yesteryear lives near him. He tries in vain to make contact, because she turns out to be as demented as a door. Karl's granddaughter Julie has a relationship with both a sailor and a fat banker, until she reveals she is pregnant. Steingerdur, Julie's mother, falls in love with an alcoholic priest who only seems to have eyes for prostitutes. During an icy night, the characters' lives intertwine in a curious way and when the morning comes, luck may lie ahead for some.
