Johnny Rutledge is a philosophical layabout whose sole purpose in life is fishing. He is forced to take responsibility for the first time in his life when five orphans cross his path. Instead of the other way around, the kids decide to adopt Johnny and find him a nice girl. Preferably the country girl Prudence Miller.
