Celeste leads a quiet life in Havana. Her part-time job at the planetarium keeps her busy. At home, she finds her inconsiderate adult son who ignores her. Her selfish sister only visits her when she needs something. One day, the government announces the startling news that aliens have lived on Earth and that they are returning to invite humans to their world. Celeste had always thought her 'Russian' neighbor Pauline was eccentric, but she now realizes that her friend is really from another planet. As people race to be selected in an alien lottery, Celeste discovers that Pauline has left her a personal invitation. To everyone's surprise, she agrees.
